The Starcrossed Escape Of The Psychological Cosmonaut

My latest completed painting, the last of 2010 (probably!)

Here are a few close ups:

The face is strange, the hair looks too unnatural to me and there are lots of elements I'm not pleased with, but I'm happy with the expression, mostly joy with a pinch of terror, which exactly suits the mood of the whole painting.

Framing needed the help of some software I wrote for the purpose, to calculate the angles. The cuts had to be made by hand, but they were accurate enough and not as difficult as you might imagine. Here is the frame so far, clamped as the glue is drying...

The joints are good enough to allow me to stain the frame (bad joints might require filling, and so painting over).

Happy New Year, Mark! I'm enthralled by your work, and this is no exception. I agree that the expression on the face needs a little work, but the overall concept and execution is fantastic!

The expression was accurate to the source image, which is what matters most. 2010 was not a good year due to the illness that now dominates my life. I'm happy to see the end of it and look forward to enacting shiny new plans in the coming year! May you have your ideal 2011!

wow Mark, the angles along with the realism in each of your paintings are so wonderful, your math skills must be as intense as your painter skills, I am envious.

Thanks Robin. Actually my maths isn't that great, but I know enough about programming to get the computer to help me when I need it!
